Evaluation #8 - Audience Feedback

Here is our audience feedback that we collected. We gained some really good opinions from others which is good for our future filming as we will know what and not to do in our next film. Some told us that the font could have been slightly different, and others said that using the terms, "STARRING" and "CASTING BY" may make us loose marks. So all these pointers are all great for us, as we will be able to improve on these for next time.

We posted our film on Facebook so that we could get feedback from a wider audience, and this is what we received.

Evaluation #7 - Improvements from the Preliminary task to the Full Product.

Back when we made our prelim task, we had little knowledge of how to film in a way in which would look reasonable professional. We had little variety of shots, and scene change. We didn't include any other special effects, and the editing was all simple and the same. However, having expanded our knowledge on things that would improve our skills for making our own, we were then able to use so many different effects on finished product. Things like changing the image into black and white, to give a scary look, and cropping the image to make sure what is on the screen is only what we wanted to be there. When linking the clips together, we wanted to make it as interesting as we could, however not distracting. So we had effects like fading in and out, flashing clips to create tension, zooming in to focus on something in particular. Out shot choice was also changed, using many more than previously, and image was no longer hand held, and instead on a tripod, to stop the viewer from being dazzled from the wobbling image.

Here is a video we made in order to explain all this.

Evaluation #5 and #6 - What I have learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product

Point 5 was to put the tags into the video, so here is a screenshot of the process that was carried out to do so.

For point 6 I made a prezi to express my learning's about the new technologies that I have learnt throughout the processes of putting together our film. So here it is. It wouldn't let me display it so I have just had to put the link.

#4 Evaluation - Our perfect Audience member PROGRESS- NEEDS CHANGING

I feel that the perfect audience member would be somebody who is down to earth and has all kinds of interests. There are a selection of STEREOTYPES below. (Just because I have written something about them - does not mean that it is necisarally their personality.)
Here is a photo of a sweet and innocent little girl who could be a potential audience member. However, the genre of the film, and our film in particular is not the type of film which somebody like that because it could be considered too scary. She wouldn't be active on facebook or any social networking sites, and so would be an unreliable source to help get the word of our film around.
Here is a photo of a girl who would be generally classed as a very kind girl. She is an active facebook and twitter user, however because she is such a sweet girl, it would be difficult for her to be engaged by the film. She is a stereotypical 'nice' girl who has lots of friends, but isn't into a lot of these dark movies.
Here is a photo of the stereotypical "nerd". Being a regular facebook, tumblr and instagram user. This would be useful for watching the film because of getting it known and advertising it around. Hashtags are a good way of getting the film known. However, a "nerd" might not be the classic aimed viewer for this particular film, however, I think that it is the kind of film which somebody would like to put the facts together and it would be the kind of film to make you think.

Here is a photo of the stereotypical "goth". I think that this would be a good audience member for our particular media product. This is because it is a darker film. Because of the darkness and creepiness of this film opening, it would end up being a dark and mysterious film. This would be a good audience member for us, as they are reliable with social networking and telling people about it to people.
Here is a photo of a girl who would be seen as popular. She is also smart, and a stereotypically average teenager. She is an active facebook and twitter user, even though she is a sweet girl, she also has another side which is where her main interests lie. For example, if she were to watch our film, she would tweet about it and facebook about it. This would make others interested because they would follow her on certain other social networking sites too, and perhaps want to get involved in where her interests lie.

#3 Evaluatuion - Media Institution

Here is an image of Jerry Bruckheimer film logo. We chose his opening institution  as we thought that the endless road helped to tell our story as is adds to the confusion of where the stroy is going to go, and this company tends to support thrillers and horror dramas, for example, criminal minds, which is an ongoing television series. It is a thriller and has been running for about a decade now. This shows that the Jerry Bruckheimer institution has supported it's thriller features very well. This was the catagory which our media piece fell into and so we felt that this was an appropriate opening logo.

We felt that Warner Brothers would also be able to support us because they are used to supporting particular thrillers. One of the pieces which they have supported is Harry Potter. Although it isn't a spooky thriller, it is a successful institution who seem to also be supporting imaginative pieces, like our own.

#2 Evaluation- How does it represent a particular social group?

Our film represents many different particular social groups , however one in particular; being the Alternative social group.  This includes people like Goths, or the typical teenager, or hardworking people who like to watch a film that will take them mindfully away from their work.

Our film, however, is very realistic, so it could be quite scary not only as the picture but in the real human mind. For example a mother may not want to watch it as it could be too close to real life, and could worry them about their own child. Contrasting with this, teenagers don't think the same as mothers do, as they have not yet experienced having their own child, so they would be more comfortable with agreeing to watch a film of this sort.

Here is one of the main characters in our film. This is what she would have looked like if there was a follow on for our film. At the start of our film she was all done up, looking confident, where as now, she looks sad, and stands against a white background which shows affection and simplicity of her characters life.

#1EVALUATION - 9 SHOT GRID

1. TITLE OF THE FILM: We wanted to choose a title that would symbolise what the story line is about. Cynical means the distrusting of others, which is what are story is about.

2. THE SETTING: We planned to film on a sunny day, so therefore shadows would create a unsettled feel about the image. We filmed the majority of Mr Peck and Jay outside, because we wanted it to see as though they had the whole world in front of them, however, Jenny we filmed inside to represent closure and segmentation. Jay is mainly hidden behind bars to show that she is trapped in her own thoughts.

3. COSTUMES: We wanted the characters to look as close to their role as possible. In order to do this, we put Jay in a black dress, as black represents darkness and sadness. Mr Peck was dressed in everyday work clothes, which contrasted with Jay, as Jay looked like she was dressed up to go out somewhere, whereas Mr Peck just treated it as any other day. This showed that Mr Peck did not care about making effort for his supposed love. Jenny, however, was dressed in a very simple, blue dress, one in which could been worn for anything. This shows her innocence and lack of awareness of the goings on between the older couple.

4. CAMERA WORK AND EDITING: To make our film as exciting as we could, we tried to use a wide range of different camera shots, including; Point-of-View, close ups, extreme close ups etc. However, they were different from ones that we had originally planned due to problems that occurred so we had to change our story line. Editing was reasonably easy to do as we wanted it to be simple in order not to distract the audience. We usually used the fading out effect which represented thought changes.

5. FONT AND STYLE: The font that we chose was simple and sharp, in order not to distract the viewer from the image.

6. STORY AND NARRATIVE: Our story that we originally were going to do unfortunately we could not do, as we ran into some problems, so we had to take another idea as turn that into what we
had planned. We also thought that our original story was too much of a story to be an opening, so this also influenced us to change path. What we did turned out well and we are all pleased with our outcome. The story we carried was about a couple who are arguing about something, and they have a young daughter who gets nightmares and has no understanding of what is going on.

7. GENRE AND SUGGESTIONS OF IT: Our film is a thriller, and we have shown this by making our story create tension and cause the viewer to be worried and concerned. Shots that we chose also add to the tension we wanted to create. For example, the close up of Jays face, with tears building up in her eyes, or the close up of Jenny in her bed when she shrieks. All this help our theme of a thriller.

8. CHARACTERS: We wanted to choose people that would suit the character in the film. So Robert Peck was picked to be the dad, and this was because he has a quiet personality, which would suit that dad as he has to be a little creepy. Jordon Jones is the dad's partner. She has great acting skills and focus, which really helped for our filming. Jenny Richardson was the young daughter. Due to her being only 5 years of age, and an innocent young girl she definitely suited our character that we needed for our film. They all worked very well together and we were pleased with who we chose.

9. SPECIAL EFFECTS: We had only a few special effects; black and white which created an old, and spooky image. We also added slow motion to some of our clips, which slowed down the clip in order to make the tension last longer. Sound also had special effects and we had lots of bangs, and sounds of babies crying, to add to the tension we wanted to create.

#32 Final Cut

After a long, long process we finally finished our final opening sequence.

#29 ROUGH EDIT finished

After a lot of planning we went out and created our rough edit. However, due to some minor issues, we were unable to create our origional storyline. So we changed it slightly, and instead we had The Dad and The mother who were together but they argue a lot. The little girl doesn't like the mother, so always spooks around her. The dad however, can be seen by the audience to be either about to do something to the girl, or the woman, but the audience does not know, so they are left on a cliff hanger.

We would like to add some more bits to our film, so make it more thrilling.

#28 Rough edit processes

Here is a screen shot of how our ROUGH EDIT was made. We had many, many shots that we did not use, however, possibly for our REAL film we may use some of them in a different way. It was really successful however, we may need to siwtch bits around to make it look not so trailer like.

#27 Props and Costume

  • In order to create our film, we will be needing 5 dolls, which will be the little girls.
  • We will also need tools such as a hammer, a screw driver, scissors, a saw, a knife etc

  • We would like to create as much eeriness as we can, so we have thought about the costume carefully.

    Mr Peck -
We will have Mr Peck wearing all black. Most likely black jeans and a black shirt from the start, and throughout the rest we will have him in a black T-shirt with his black jeans. This will represtent the evil personality of the character he will be playing.

    Jay -
We will have Jay wearing a red dress at the beginning, with her hair curled, looking all done up. We will then have her dressed well - not all done up, but probably with her hair done up in a bun, wearing something which indicated purity - ie a white top or blue to represent calm.

    Jenny -
We will have Jenny wearing a plain dress or a plain T-shirt with subtle trousers. Jenny's costume won't represent much to her character. For the end scene, we will have Jenny dressed up as a china doll, with her hair in bunches, face-paint or make-up on her face to create effect, and a doll-like dress on with shiney shoes.

    #26 Casting our Film

For our film, we have chosen people to fit the characters. The dad will be Mr Peck, as we feel that he fits the spooky character best!: The dad's daughter is Jenny as she is very young and sweet: The woman is Jordon: And we will have little dolls for our props.

    Here is the plan :

    Parts with Jenny - pink
    Parts with Jay - red
Parts with Mr Peck - Green
Parts with all three - Black

    Firstly -

All meet at Hopeman House - in less done up costume.

Then shots of Mr Peck taking each of the dolls away, (separate shots). - Each doll that comes away, we
put up names of cast/names of directors/cameramen.

Shoot scene with Jenny and Mr Peck - taking dolly away.

Then Jenny saying 'Daddy, where have all my dollies gone?'

Then we will film Mr Peck taking the doll apart in Emma's room.

Then Jay waking up with doll next to her head. Scream.

Get Jenny dressed up and then shoot her scene with Jay.

    Secondly -

Go to the South Lawn, by the path. Film Jenny walking past Jay with Doll in her bag.

Jay put on dress - dressed up for the beginning shot.

    Finished with Jenny.

    Thirdly -

Go to the dance studio, film Mr Peck walking away from Jay - they are dressed up.

    Finished with cast.

    Costumes-

Jenny - Colored trousers(plain) - if possible, with plain white shirt. Any shoes. Also, bring a dress up dress with two hair bobbles. Jenny will be dressing up as a doll towards the end. But arrive wearing the casual outfit.

Jay - costume 1 - Black jeans or leggings - boots of any kind - long green jacket - any jumper underneath.
costume 2 - any dress - lots of make up - hair done up - like on a night out

Mr Peck - costume 1 - Black T-shirt and black jeans

#25 Risk assessment for our film

Whilst filming, we may come across many risks, so in order to prevent them from happening, we will follow the following rules.

    OUTSIDE
    - In order to not drop the camera on the girls head we will ensure to hold it securely.
    - We may fall on either down/up the stairs, so we will be careful.
    - If someone gets  hurt we will seek for help immediately.
    - We will make sure that no one who does not want to  be filmed in the background is not.

    INSIDE
We will be filming in three bedrooms, Olivia's, Jemma's, and Mine. In order for anyone to not get their fingers trapped in a door, or bang their head on a shelf, we will,l be careful and aware of these dangers.

When the man is in my room taking apart the dolls with weapons, we will make sure that he is a responsible and old enough to be responsible over them.

In the drama department we will assure the no one gets hurt by the amount of technical equipment around the place.

#24 Planning the locations for our film

We have emailed all the staff we need to email to have permission to use locations that we wanted.
